The starting point may have been the same, but although two local athletes will both play for Northwest Christian College teams next year, they took different paths to get there.

Henderson, meanwhile, got the idea to play during a chance meeting with the NCC coaches.

“She was just kicking the ball around at a field we were practicing at,” head coach Vern Stewart said. “We just kind of bumped into her.”

Henderson’s maturity — she has two children and is married — and soccer knowledge caught Stewart’s attention during their meeting after she played with some of the Beacon players at an informal practice.

“We invited her to kick the ball around and she could do it as well as any of those other players,” Stewart said. “Her maturity is really what fascinated me, and her knowledge of the game is really what is gonna be another key thing.”

Henderson has four years of eligibility remaining.

“If she wants to stick with it she’s got the chance,” Stewart said.
